EPIC BUILD (Latrines - Kg. Hulu Tamu) - Week 11 (3rd Sept)

Building 26 toilets & 21 Bathrooms w the Kg. Hulu Tamu Community (3rd Sep 2017)

EPIC has been working with Kg. Hulu Tamu community since 2010, building 33 homes over 6 years, building relationships between residents and builders so that they support each other and find new, creative ways to exchange skills and knowledge. The residents have requested for more assistance in helping them build the remaining toilets & bathrooms, that they will exchange the service by sharing their skills/craft/an experience. Please note that we are working this arrangement out with the village, and the dates are subject to villagers' confirmation and sufficient number of volunteer registrations.

The build began on the 23rd April and will be ongoing for several weekends (Most villagers are only free on Sundays) until all the toilets and bathrooms are complete.

Registration for the 3rd of September 2017 build is now open, in which we will assist 2-4 homeowners in building a toilet each. Each team will be guided by the homeowner, a Local Coordinator, an EPIC Specialist builder and an Experience Coordinator, who will be exchanging skills in building, in managing the team, as well as in engaging with the community.

Build Details:

Agenda: 

0830 - Meet at designated spot. Meet up point would be determine through discussion during briefing.
0930 - Arrive at Batang Kali
1000 - Build begins!
1230 - Lunch. A volunteer will go buy lunch for us in town.
1330 - Build continues
1800 - End of day!

To Note:

1. COMPULSORY: Volunteers are required to have undergone the Builder Basics Workshop and are encouraged to join the Community Engagement Training.  More info is in EPIC DNA page. You can register for the Builder Basics Workshop on August 5 through http://bit.ly/2uBtLOX, and on August 26 through http://bit.ly/2tJ6Eh5.
   
   
2. A Mission Briefing will be conducted on Friday before the build at The Collective, No. 20 Jalan PJS11/18 Bandar Sunway. The Specialist will set up a Whatsapp Group to arrange with you the convenient time. During the Briefing, we will share the agenda of the day, sort out groups and meet each other.
   
   
3. Bring along RM50 to cover lunch & carpooling. This is just an estimate, but it shouldn't go beyond this. If you are feeling extra generous, you can choose to use the balance for subsidising villagers' lunch & participation!
   
   
4. You are required to wear a safety helmet during the build. If you do not have a safety helmet, you have the option of either purchasing the helmet alone or the Builder Kit that consists of a helmet, gloves, a toolbelt, and poncho from us. We will make the arrangements during the Mission Briefing and on the morning before the build. 
   Builder Kit: RM32.00
   Safety Helmet alone: RM14.00

Other notes:
Wear sunblock
Dress comfortably (shorts, sports pants and a t-shirt)
Wear proper shoes (no slippers!)
