Public Epic Homes Build Sponsored by Prudential Chairman's Challenge

This is a Sponsored Public Build; However, we do advise all volunteers to read the following message carefully. 



EPIC Homes is EPIC's flagship initiative that aims to build trust and relationships with marginalized communities in order to create cooperative, resilient and sustainable communities through the simple act of building home - addressing the issue of access to safe housing among marginalized communities.

EPIC strives to equip individuals to be able to engage with communities, build trust and relationships via participatory processes in research, planning & implementation with the facilitation of socio-technical & domain experts. Through this, shared experiences are cultivated, which heightens the community, external supporters & overall awareness of our inter-relationships and interactions within the space we occupy.

  We have Built 160+ Homes.

 We have a builder community of over 5,000 volunteers.

  We have worked with over 10 villages across Peninsular Malaysia.

  An EPIC Home only takes 3 - 5 days to build!

THE VOLUNTEERS 

This is a publically organized build made possible by "Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad". This event is exclusively open to ALL public volunteers where an exciting weekend awaits them! 

THE LOGISTICS

Date: 3rd to 5th April 2020 
Location: Kampung Orang Asli Serigala, Ulu Selangor, Selangor
Transportation Mode: All volunteers will and must travel by bus 
Accommodation: Hilltop Hotel, Rawang 
Meeting Point: 1 Utama Bus Terminal  (next to 1 Utama Dataran Open Car Park)

This Epic Homes Build Programme is fully sponsored by Prudential Chairman's Challenge. However, in order for volunteers to participate, volunteers will need to pay a commitment fee. This commitment fee will be used solely for Kg Orang Asli Serigala Community Fund to fund their development projects other than Epic Homes (as agreed with Prudential).

We will be opening 2 sets of tickets:
-12 slots for New Builders who require Basic Builder Workshop
-15 slots for Builders (new/returning) who have attended Basic Builder Workshop

Commitment Fee:
-New Builders (Attending Basic Builder Workshop): RM150
-Builders (No Basic Builder Workshop Required): RM100

Basic Builder Workshop sponsored by Prudential:
21st March 2020: 9am to 4pm
9am is the build briefing and will continue on with our Basic Builder Workshop at 10am.

Builders must be able to commit the above-agreed dates; unable to commit will result in instant disqualification and this ticket for this build is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Please note that volunteers who are participating in all Epic Homes Build Programme must be at the age of 18 and above.**

THE OUTCOME

We hope that throughout the build, volunteers will develop a deeper understanding of how the Orang Asli live and that volunteers put themselves in the shoes of the community. We're essentially building a closer relationship with the Orang Asli community whilst also strengthening the relationships and dynamics of your team!

THE ATTITUDE

Approach and talk to the family! Strike up a conversation and leave a positive and lasting impression. They are usually shy, especially the women, and they may be a little hesitant to approach you in such a big group.
Be open to new things as different communities tend to work differently. Who knows? You could even learn a thing or two!
