Mission Description

Mapping Kampung Orang Asli Tun Abdul Razak

Join us to enable community impact
We are on a mission to empower communities in Selangor! In July, Epic Lead Pathfinders began basic mapping and conversations with village leaders to activate their local resources to develop their own communities. We have received their support to take the next step: Community Mapping.

We are looking for individuals to join us as volunteer Pathfinders, to interview community members and collect information that will enable the sharing of community stories in a dignified and accurate manner to invite collaborators to partner alongside these communities to enable positive impact.

If you have a passion for communities, enjoy having conversations or like to explore new places and meet new people, we're inviting you to join us as Pathfinders to map Kampung Orang Asli Tun Abdul Razak and Kolam Air in Selangor. Find out more about this village below!

Who are Pathfinders?
Pathfinders assist the Lead Pathfinders to engage with communities. They use conversational skills to gather accurate information and data, which can then be used to tell compelling stories that inspire change.

Pathfinders must be able to speak Malay at a basic conversational level.

Training: The Pathfinder Workshop
Interested but don't know what to expect or don't have the skillset to do so? Don't worry! We provide the training to equip you with the necessary skills to do so! (This training is compulsory for all).
Link will be given once you signed up.

  • As a dedicated volunteer for a recent mission to Kampung Orang Asli Tun Abdul Razak and Kolam Air, I had the privilege of participating in an expedition that left an indelible mark on my heart and soul. This journey into the heart of Malaysia's indigenous heritage and pristine nature was nothing short of extraordinary, and our primary objectives of assessing the living conditions of the Temuan tribe (Proto-Malay) and understanding their aspirations added a deeper dimension to the experience.

From the moment I arrived at the village, I was welcomed with open arms by the Temuan community. Their warm hospitality and eagerness to share their way of life immediately made me feel very excited. It was evident that building trust and fostering genuine connections were essential to achieving our mission's goals.

The core objectives of our mission were to assess the living conditions within the village and to gain a profound understanding of the Temuan community's aspirations. This involved visiting their homes, engaging in meaningful conversations, and listening attentively to their stories and dreams. It was a humbling experience to witness their resilience and hear their hopes for a brighter future.

Our journey involved mapping the village and its surroundings, but this time, it held a different significance. We marked not only important landmarks but also the conditions of their houses and the challenges they faced in their daily lives (e.g. inequality for basic needs such as clean water, and electricity; poor conditions of house). This information is invaluable for future initiatives aimed at improving their living conditions while respecting their cultural heritage.

The trek to Kolam Air, a hidden gem within the lush rainforest, provided a unique opportunity to engage with nature and reflect on our mission's purpose. The physical challenges of the journey served as a reminder of the resilience and strength required to overcome adversity. It was an experience that allowed us to connect not only with the environment but also with the Temuan community on a deeper level.

In conclusion, my volunteer experience in Kampung Orang Asli Tun Abdul Razak and Kolam Air was transformative and deeply enriching. It allowed me to connect with the Temuan community (one of indigenous community of West Malaysia), gain insights into their living conditions and aspirations, and contribute meaningfully to their well-being. I encourage others to engage in similar initiatives that combine volunteerism with cultural preservation and environmental conservation. It's a journey that will leave you with a profound sense of purpose and a heart filled with gratitude for the compassion and resilience of the Temuan people. Yes, now I have experienced with indigenous community of West Malaysia (Temuan tribe) and East Malaysia (Penan tribe)!!
