Join us to enable community impact
We are on a mission to empower communities in Perak! In June 2024 and March 2025, Epic Lead Pathfinders began basic mapping and conversations with village leaders to activate their local resources to develop their own communities. We have received their support to take the next step: Community Mapping.
We are looking for individuals to join us as volunteer Pathfinders, to interview community members and collect information that will enable the sharing of community stories in a dignified and accurate manner, and to invite collaborators to partner alongside these communities to enable positive impact.
If you have a passion for communities, enjoy having conversations or like to explore new places and meet new people, we're inviting you to join us as Pathfinders to map a cluster of villages in Simpang Pulai, Perak. Find out more about this village below!
About Kampung Orang Asli Pos Raya & Kampung Orang Asli Lalang
Kampung Orang Asli Pos Raya
Kampung Orang Asli Pos Raya is a Semai-majority village established in 1957 and located near Simpang Pulai within a forest reserve. The village is organised and well-maintained, with facilities such as a community hall, church, surau, playground, and public toilets. The community celebrates cultural events like Jis Pai and practices traditional skills such as weaving and herbal medicine. Residents are involved in resource gathering and crafts. While children attend local schools, some face challenges continuing due to schooling costs. Traditional knowledge is slowly fading among younger generations. Community spirit exists, though occasionally. Aspirations include addressing overcrowded housing, expanding bamboo farming, launching local businesses, improving the ceremonial hall, and upgrading road access.
Kampung Orang Asli Lalang
Kampung Orang Asli Lalang, locally known as Sngoi Along, is a Temiar-Semai village in Perak with origins dating back to the 1930s. Located near a forest reserve, palm oil plantations and a river. The village has a strong sense of unity. The community values their culture, gathering monthly to clean the village and celebrating both Eid and their traditional new year, Tahun Jispal. Traditional weaving is still known but practised only when needed. While there is access to electricity and water, not all homes are equally served. The villagers aspire to improve their housing, develop land for livestock farming, and install a water filtration system.
