What is the EPIC Bamboo Home?
We need your help to build the first EPIC Bamboo home, using bamboo!. We would like to invite you to be a part of the team that builds this home on December 12th to 14th. Be a part of EPIC Homes history building the second EPIC Bamboo home with us!
The creation of this design is in collaboration with the DB3 Team, SEAD and Ewe Jin Low’s leadership (from betterbamboobuildings.com or on Instagram @ewejinlow).
Why Bamboo?
Over the past few years, EPIC has been working with various experts to set up a sustainable treated bamboo pole industry in the Orang Asli communities as a form of economic empowerment.
We’ve decided to take a serious step into making bamboo the ideal way forward for EPIC homes as a construction material. Bamboo is a super material with many positive values given its suitability to our climate, cost effectiveness (compared to the volatile steel prices), positive environmental impact and potential for it to improve livelihoods of the OA themselves.

FAQ
1. How is this build different from the last bamboo prototype build in PARC?
The last bamboo prototype EPIC Home was a prototype for us to test different components and designs that would be used for this build! The last build was built in PARC but this build will be going towards an actual orang asli family to use.
Exploring the use of a sustainable construction material in Bamboo to prototype a new Epic Home. This workshop works towards training and familiarising people with the material as well as the viability of the design of the home. The impact of this mission can lead to further and effective use of bamboo in construction of homes.

Bamboo Build caught my attention when I first saw photos from EBH1, and I signed up immediately when EBH2 opened for registration. It was fun learning about a new material and a different way of building a house from the usual EPIC Homes.
The experience gave me insight and a deeper appreciation for how far EPIC has come in optimising its building process after 370+ builds. I'm proud to be involved in the early stages of this new chapter.
Most important of all, despite all the figuring out as we go, it never ceases to amaze me (especially in this build) that a group of almost strangers can come together and work towards a common goal to complete a house in 3 days. I'm proud to have worked with them.
