Join us to enable community impact
We are on a mission to empower communities in Perak! In April, Epic Lead Pathfinders began basic mapping and conversations with village leaders to activate their local resources to develop their own communities. We have received their support to take the next step: Community Mapping.
We are looking for individuals to join us as volunteer Pathfinders, to interview community members and collect information that will enable the sharing of community stories in a dignified and accurate manner to invite collaborators to partner alongside these communities to enable positive impact.
If you have a passion for communities, enjoy having conversations or like to explore new places and meet new people, we're inviting you to join us as Pathfinders to map a cluster of villages n Simpang Pulai, Perak. Find out more about this village below!
About Kampung Orang Asli Pergom, Kerawat, Juang, Karbat
Situated in Kinta Simpang Pulai, just 20 minutes from Gopeng, Perak, the villages of Kampung Orang Asli Kerawat, Karbat, Juang, and Pergom are home to approximately 600 people. The community is a blend of Temiar, Semai, Iban, Kadazan, Malay, and Thai. Spread along the road with only five minutes between them, the villages are surrounded by forest reserves where locals gather natural produce, mainly bamboo. The community thrives on gotong-royong spirit, preserving traditional skills like weaving and bamboo home building.
Despite challenges in education, homes, and connectivity, the villagers dream of better homes, access to education, and internet connectivity. They also aspire to improve their business practices to strengthen their livelihoods. Their hopes for the future reflect a desire to uplift their community while staying rooted in their cultural traditions.
