MyCorps, Cambodia Mini Project 2.1: Pnom Penh and Siem Riep #MisiKembojaSiraj

We are working to help creating a better future for our beloved Cambodians. As Malaysians, we aspire to see our neighbours in Cambodia enjoying good socioeconomic prosperity as much as we do in the spirit of one big ASEAN family.

This mini project is also a follow-up initiative to the previous MyCorps Mission 2 projects in Kampong Kdei, Siem Riep. In December 2016, this awesome and inspiring group of volunteers completed the construction of a pre-school building, 3 latrine units, a playground site and a fencing that separates both the pond area and the school site. This whole project was designed in such a way that a simple and ideal social development model of a society be based on four main aspects; education, hygiene, entertainment and safety. This project was considered as a huge success.

According to "Opportunity Cambodia", the building would be utilised as an "Early Childhood and Maternal Education".  The pre-school teaching programme is expected to start at the beginning of 2017 to provide training and basic hygiene, nutrition and baby care for the mothers. In this follow-up initiative, I hope to do a lot more of community engagement with the local villagers and administrators as well as doing some video and photo documentation of the projects completed last December 2016. I will be thoroughly assessing the extent to which these projects have benefited the local community. In addition to that, I hope to understand their aspiration and hope as well gauging other urgent socioeconomic needs. For instance, how has the condition of the previously fixed local road been so far? Has it been helping the local villagers to move in and out from their village to the main market area? What are some of the inspiring stories from Kampong Kdei that we can get to be shared with the MyCorps Mission 2 volunteers?

Having said that, there are three things that I am going to do there throughout my stay in Cambodia:

1. Distributing education essentials to the children in Kampong Kdei, Siem Riep with the funding from the public and other interested parties.

2. Starting on journalistic works to understand the aspirations of local Cambodians to see a more prosperous Cambodia

3. Volunteering as a teacher, teaching English, Mathematics and Economics to the students in Siem Riep

I will be working together with Cambodia Education and Development Fund (CEDF) with regard to the teaching activities. I hope that this collaboration will create a pathway for more young Malaysians, and of course for the MyCorps Cambodia Mission alumni to come back and serve the local Cambodians to create more positive changes.

Just to let you know that Ho Chi Minh City Marathon is a fundraising effort to help buying those education essentials such as books, stationaries, school uniform etc. for the kids in Kampong Kdei, Siem Riep.
