Mission Description

HANDCRAFTS WORKSHOP

We are looking for a skilled person to help us teach the refugees how to make some useful handcrafts with recycled items in a workshop format.

The volunteer will have to build the content of the workshop and teach it to the refugees. The workshop content should be divided in at least 3 sessions of 2 hours each (we can do more sessions if the volunteer thinks its needed). The workshop will be delivered to at least 1 community centre, although we aim to reach 4 refugee community centres around KL. The timeline to deliver the workshops is flexible, we can do it on weekdays or weekends.

An initial and final assessment should be done to identify how much the participants learned. Certificates are given to those who attend all workshop sessions.

You will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinators. They will guide you and support you during the process, and they will handle logistics for each workshop.

MSRI provides the workshop materials if needed, refreshments, translators, certificates, etc. If requested, we can also provide a letter to acknowledge your work with MSRI.

Mission Impact

The MSRI Community Centre focuses on providing emergency support and livelihood programmes for our refugee and asylum seeker community members. As a transit country, refugees move to Malaysia with the intention of being resettled elsewhere, but the time consuming process leaves some in limbo for many years. Our goal is to empower and help them attain self-relience during their time here by offering a safe space where they can continue to learn, enhance, and expose their skills.
