Refugees in Malaysia do not stay in a refugee camp, instead, those staying in urban area rent low cost flats. Most of the time, a few families will share one single unit to save cost. This means that the refugee communities are sharing common space with the locals and tend to set up learning centre nearby due to safety reason.
The refugee communities and urban poor are joining forces to clean up the environment of the housing area and the school. We are not only building awareness on importance of having conducive environment to learn, but also want to tell a message that anyone can play a part and contribute towards the cause.
Cleaning up the environment together is the first step to peace-building between the refugee and local communities. We believe this can bridge the long lost gap between the local and refugee communities. We have been receiving plenty of support from the locals and we look forward to seeing more relationships formed between the communities for a greater impact.
-Building awareness of importance of having clean environment for learning
-Forging relationship between the local and refugee communities
-Creating a conducive environment for the refugee students to learn
