What has been accomplished

Not a house, but a home.

Over the course of this mission, we’ve built a home in 3 days thanks to the cooperation & teamwork of the volunteers.

Bridging of the rural & urban divide.

The build saw the coming together of both rural & urban communities as they worked hand-in-hand to achieve our common goal - building a home.

Growing the builder community.

In this process, we’ve also managed to grow 27 new builders that now have a deeper understanding & connection with the family they built with.

Community empowerment.

Lastly, we were able to empower local champions that could result in future development within the community.

  • The home build programme is one of the best opportunity for volunteers to give something back to the community i.e. building better shelter for an aboriginal family. The existing volunteers are very friendly and helpful. Personally, this programme taught me new skills - basic carpentry skills!

Final Words

Dear Mirandah Asia,

It has been a week since the EH140 build and I would like to express my utmost gratitude on behalf of EPIC and the core team for all of your kindness and workmanship during the 3 days of build. Truly, it wasn’t an easy task for many laymen like us to build a house, but having this golden opportunity to gather everyone from various countries of Mirandah Asia putting hands together persevering through the heat and discomfort for Abang Salim & Kak Biah was very inspiring.

To some it may just be a house; to them, it’s more than just a home. What you guys have done was a ripple effect of greater things ahead for this family. Knowing that they will have a better living condition comparatively of their previous house, the parents get to work without worries, the children get to focus on their education and more importantly; giving them a chance for a better living. Through this process, it also allows us to grow into better and more compassionate human beings.

Good days give you happiness; bad days give you experiences. Worst days give you a lesson; best days give you a memory. Regardless of the experience that we all have been through together for the past 3 days, hopefully, all of us are able to pick up a thing or two and influence the people around us to be a better community. Community Service is calling, no need for stalling. Till then, may we all meet again for greater things.

Building community through giving
