Give Blood, Give Life- Blood Donation

Mission Completion Report

04 Oct 2019 - 04 Oct 2019

by Give Blood Give Life

HOSTED BY Give Blood Give Life

A Brief Introduction

The demand for blood has been increasing over the years and there are many people who are experiencing a large range of conditions that require blood provided through donation. We believe that there are many people who are not aware of the importance of having sufficient blood supply in the National Blood Bank. Through this project, we would like to raise awareness to change the perception of the public regarding blood donation and educate them the benefits for donating blood. By gathering information regarding the reasons of why many people choose not to be a blood donor, many effective strategies can be applied to tackle and minimize the problem. Through several activities in this project, we hope that we would not only be able to change the perception of the public but also educate them the importance at the same time.

What has been accomplished

By carrying out several activities such as interview sessions with the frequent blood donors, non-blood donors and the professional, we were able to gain an insight regarding their opinions on blood donation. We have also walked around the campus to promote our blood donation campaign. After several attempts, we were able to get in touch with the National Blood Bank to organize a blood donation event which was held on the 4th of October 2019 at Sunway College.

As social media is powerful, we have been constantly posting information through Instagram and Facebook to create awareness by educating and providing more information about blood donation to the public. Through social media, we were also able attract participants to our event. During the blood donation event, after the blood donors have donated their blood, they were asked to randomly pick a note from the lucky draw box which is either about the facts or the benefits of blood donation. After picking one, they have posted it on Instagram to share the information with their followers.

For the blood donation event which was held on 4th October 2019, there were 32 participants in total. 18 of them were first-time donors while 10 of them were frequent blood donors, The remaining 4 of them did not meet the requirements therefore they were not allowed to make a donation. We were able to achieve the goal of our project by turning a total of 18 non-blood donors into blood donors. We believe that when more people are aware of the issue and learned the importance of it, they will be more willing to make an attempt to help others.

Final Words

Through our mission we hope that more people are aware of this social issue and are more willing to step up to donate and influence others to give it a try. We would like to thank all of the blood donors who have participated in our event especially to the first-time blood donors who are willing to face their fear by stepping out of their comfort zone to make the donation. We would also like to thank the National Blood Bank for collaborating with us for this blood donation event. Lastly, we hope that through this awareness project, the public would understand and be more aware of the importance of having sufficient blood supply in the blood bank as well as the benefits that they would enjoy for donating blood.
